Forks Financial Forecast Possible by Summer's End

The Forks Township Board of Supervisors will revisit a seven-year financial forecast at Thursday's worksession.

The Forks Township financial forecast is not on hold.

After a month of missed meetings, the Forks Township Board of Supervisors expect to be back on track with plans to revisit the tonship's seven-year financial forecast at Thursday's worksession.

At the end of last year, Forks Township officials faced a decision on whether to vote for a tax hike for 2013. Officials opted against that move but decided that it was high time to get the township's finances in order.

Forks has been plagued by several projects that went over budget, including its amphitheater and public works building.

Meanwhile, the amphitheater is in dire need of repairs while the public works building—which has yet to open—has been bogged down by waterproofing issues.

"We did lose a meeting or two due to other commitments from some of the key participants," Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said. "We also expanded the depth and scope of the discussions as well as the alternatives for addressing the budget shortfall."

Chuss said that Thursday officials will analyze the impact of various alternatives that can be implemented to reduce the budget shortfall.

"Personally, my goal, I think the others all agree, would be to have the forecast in place by the beginning of the budget process in late summer," Chuss said. "But we need to ensure the forecast and plan are as accurate as possible and so would not want to see it rushed."

Supervisor David Billings believes that plans are moving forward nicely.

"Actually, nothing is holding up the plan," Billings said. "We are focused on developing a realistic seven-year plan that asks the right questions. It is important we better understand the long term financial viability of our township."

"We have made great progress," Billings added.
