Forks Hires New Manager for $92,000

Forks has hired a new township manager, John V. Cornell, from Souderton.

 

After four months of searching, unanimously agreed to hire a new township manager Thursday night.

John V. Cornell, 55, of Souderton got the job from among . He will receive $92,000-a-year salary plus a $200 car stipend.

His first official day is Monday, though he did take his seat with supervisors after being hired.

Cornell has about 25 years of township management experience, with Forks being his fifth community.

“Township managers are like football coaches, often moving when administrations change,” he said before the meeting. "It's really neat to be at the grass roots of a community."

Cornell’s last position was in Tyrone Borough in Blair County, Pa. He told the Altoona Mirror that for personal reasons, he left that post because he was unable to meet the borough's residency requirements.

Cornell has five children, three boys and two girls. His one daughter is now a senior in high school, and after she graduates he will consider moving to the township.

"But the distance from Montgomery County isn’t too bad,” he said.

, Forks Township manager for about five years, resigned in November, in part because his commute from Oaks, Montgomery County, had gotten tiring for him.

It’s about an hour and a half to Oaks and about an hour's drive to Souderton, where Cornell lives.

Schnaedter took a new position in Hilltown, Buck County at a salary of $100,000. He earned about $85,000 in Forks when he left.
