Forks Parks and Recreation to Have Its Own Website

One place for all recreation related things is the hope.

One-stop shopping where people can come and see-it-all. That’s how Forks Township Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Sulzbach envisions a new separate parks and recreation website for the township.

Last week, Sulzbach presented plans to create a stand-alone 25-page website for the department to the township Board of Supervisors. The board voted 5-0 in favor of the site.

The site would cost $5,975 including a content management system to make changes directly to the website, according to Sulzbach.

Supervisor C. David Howell said the price also includes a $1,500 built-in discount since the municipality already uses the web design company, New Arrival Studios, Bethlehem.

“We’re getting a very good deal,” said Howell. “We wouldn’t be changing the basic URL,” said Sulzbach.

Currently, residents who need information on recreation programs in township, have to go through the municipal website. But there is not a place for registration and more. The Forks Township Athletic Association has a separate website currently. But the community center does not have a separate website.

With a new site, residents could gain access to everything recreation-related directly or at the township web page by clicking a link. Sulzbach said she sees the site as a place residents can go to find all the information needed in one location.

The site will feature community sports-related news, upcoming events, Facebook and Twitter links, online registration forms and provide basic information about the department structure, recreation board, Forks Township Athletic Association members and links to the organizations and their sites.

“We’re all one organization, we’re all one team,” said Sulzbach.

Sulzbach said the site would also provide the opportunity to showcase the different parks and recreation facilities in town.

“But in order to get this up and running we would have to name our parks,” she said.

There would be guidelines put into place prior to naming the parks, Sulzbach said.

There would also be a page to show community center programs. This page would provide information on trips, events, ticket sales, fees, forms, facilities, youth programs, adult programs, garden clubs, forms, policy and procedures and contact information.

No official date on when the site could be up and running was given.
