Forks Seeks Flood Study Grant

has applied for a grant that will allow officials to study areas that are contributing to flooding in the township and nearby Palmer Township.

Township Manager said the Delaware & Lehigh mini-grant would allow Forks Township to put together a special project to study stormwater runoff and evaluate the impact of the .

Cornell discussed the grant with the at its July 19 meeting.

Cornell and Supervisor Robert Egolf also met with the Bushkill Conservancy organization and brainstormed with Public Safety Director Mark Roberts and Town Engineer Scott Muller about the project.

Cornell said the project description calls for an examination of stream features contributing to flooding, the need to preserve and protect streams and greenways, and to alleviate problems at the flood prone areas of the creek.

He said that Forks participated in a 2006 study, but did not get a grant because of stormwater/flooding issues.

Cornell said this grant would be up to $10,000 and must be matched by the township.

He also sent a letter to Manager Christopher Christman asking him to draft a letter of support for the grant, which he did.
