Forks Township’s Five-Year Recreation Plan to be Revised

Seven meeting dates set to determine what projects will be included for 2012-2017.

Forks Township officials have set in motion an overhaul of the five-year recreation plan.

On July 21, the township Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 in favor of revising the plan by the end of the year. Not present were supervisors Erik Chuss and Robert Egolf.

Earlier this month, supervisors authorized township Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Sulzbach to review the plan for recommendations on updates. The original plan had been for 2008-2012. But with only 2012 remaining and many of the projects either completed, under way or voted down, officials believe the original plan needs to be revised.

At the meeting, Sulzbach presented details of seven meetings during the remainder of the year that will be used to establish a new plan, which will then cover 2012-2017.

“I’m very happy to see that we can have a forward-looking approach, especially to meet our capital needs that have been lacking,” said Supervisor Lilly Gioia.

The meetings will begin in August and are expected to be completed in November. Board members will then be presented the new plan to vote on.

Expected to be covered at the meetings are the following: a review of the parks and recreation department; analysis of township recreation; a review of 2010 Census information for growth indicators; a priority list of projects, and recommendations for capital projects.
