Help Wanted: Forks Township Supervisor

The Forks Township Board of Supervisors has 30 days to name a replacement for Supervisor David Billings, who resigned, effective June 25.

The Forks Township Board of Supervisors may have a new face at its July meeting.

With last Thursday's resignation of Supervisor David Billings, the Board of Supervisors now has 30 days effecive to Billings' June 25 resignation date on Tuesday to appoint a replacement, Township Manager John Cornell said Monday.

Billings announced in a letter to Palmer-Forks Patch that he was resigning as part of a job transfer to another state.

Cornell said that if supervisors can't make a decision, then the township's vacancy board will step in and decide.

Cornell said he was putting together an advertisement that would be published shortly. He gave Palmer-Forks Patch some details.

Any interested parties should submit their resume of interest and candidacy to the Forks Township municipal building offices on Sullivan Trail by July 8.

They must address their candidacy to Cornell or Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss.

The candidates will be forwarded to the supervisors who will then begin the interview process of July 11. The board would then make and announce the appointment at its July 18 monthly meeting.

Cornell said there is another twist this year, since it's an election year.

He said that the candidate chosen as supervisor could only serve until the end of the year and woud have to run for election in November.

Meanwhile, both Democratic and Republican parties are eligible to submit a candidate to run for election. Billings is a Republican.

The winner would fulfill the remaining 2014 and 2015 years of Billings' term.
