How Will Route 33 Interchange Impact Forks?

Forks Township officials sought input about plans for Route 33 Interchange.

The new Route 33 Interchange is going to go through Palmer Township.

But Forks Township officials want to know how it might impact them.

At last month's meeting, Forks Township Engineer Scott Muller updated officials about the status of the project, which originally called for construction to begin in October with completion anticipated by December 2013.

"No one would tell us anything," he said. "I had to reach out to PennDOT to get copies of anything."

Muller said that the state Department of Transportation told him that there was a first submission of plans in August.

Forks officials are really concerned about the impact of Uhler Road, which connects Forks with Tatamy and then Tatamy with Palmer, where the intersection will be.

Muller specifically wanted to know about traffic conditions on Uhler Road at Bushkill Drive and Sullivan Trail.

"We'll be kept abreast all through the project," he said.

"It could happen in the spring or it could happen 10 years from now," Muller said.

Palmer Township officials recently reported that they were told that the project's construction may start soon. Officials there said that they were told the interchange might not be completed until spring 2014.
