New Forks Supervisor Must Vacate Recreation Board Seat

New Forks Supervisor Ed Moore's post on the recreation board could be filled by Aug. 18.

Ed Moore is trading one government position for another.

The newly appointed Forks Township supervisor must vacate his seat on the Board of Recreation.

Township officials talked about Moore's upcoming recreation board vacancy during Thursday night's work session, a meeting not attended by Moore, who was on vacation.

Moore was chosen among seven candidates to replace Supervisor David Billings, who resigned last month.

Moore's recreation term is set to expire Dec. 31, 2017.

Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said the township would advertise the position in the hopes of being able to choose a replacement by Aug. 18.

Chuss said the recreation board should make a recommendation to supervisors on who would be the best candidate and then supervisors would sign off on the appointment.

Township Manager John Cornell said Moore was aware of the conflict of serving on a township board and being a supervisor.

"Ed has to step down because he is a supervisor," Cornell said. "He knows he has to do so."

Moore will complete the final five months of Billings' term this year, but Chuss and other supervisors said they hope he'll want to run for Billings' seat and spend the next two years in office. He is expected to be sworn in next week.

Billings announced last month in a letter to Palmer-Forks Patch that he was stepping down as part of a job transfer to another state.
