The 6-year-old system has needed repairs recently, Christman said, adding that repairs were made at least four times since January.

Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said a security system is essential for the center.

"Personally, I think we have to have it," Colver said. "We've had issues there with falls and things of that nature. In today's world, those cameras are a necessity."

The community center hosts numerous events and activities year round and has thousands of people coming through its doors each year.

Colver said the system cost $52,000 to install and $12,000 to maintain. He didn't think the repair costs were "overly crazy" over its lifespan.

"We spent a little over $5,000 in 2010 and only $280 in 2011," he said.

"I think we can do better," Christman stated. "My viewpoint is that if we can do better, we should because we're spending money when we shouldn't have to. We should look at other options that are available."

Township Supervisor Bob Lammi hoped the upgrades would include adding a camera to monitor the new Miracle League field, which is expected to open in September. Lammi wanted a camera there to record any damage at the field.

"If we have damage to the facility, we can look back at it," he said. "If we have the money, I would love to add a camera."

Christman said community center director Dan McKinney is in the process of seeking possible vendors.

Colver advised Christman to keep the supervisors updated on the process.
