Palmer Bike Path to Open by Labor Day Weekend

Palmer Township officials say an official inspection is expected Aug. 28 on the bike path.

May, June, July...

Palmer Township officials had hoped that the bike path would be open by mid-May and then late July. Now officials said Tuesday that they are gunning for the end of the month.

"A number of people have been asking about it," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said. "It's done. It will open soon."

Township Manager Christopher Christman said that a final inspection with DCNR is scheduled for Aug. 28.

"Barring any issues, the bike path will be opened for Labor Day weekend," Christman said.

The bike path section has been closed since Hurricane Sandy hit the Lehigh Valley. The section endured Sandy's wrath in late October, causing major tree damage along the Lehigh River.

Colver said the delay in its reopening has been due to time restraints.

He said the public works department "has been pulled in 10 different directions" with getting ball fields ready and cutting grass often due to a summer filled with lots of rain.
