Palmer Bike Path Work Nearing Completion

Palmer Township officials had hoped to have bike path opened by mid-May. Now they are shooting for the end of July.

They hoped for mid-May.

But Palmer Township officials said at Monday night's Board of Supervisors meeting that the bike path should be open by the end of July.

"A lot of people are questioning why it isn't opening," Supervisor Bob Lammi said.

Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said that paving the blacktop and fixing the shoulders are the only obstacles to getting the popular path back on track.

Public Services Director Tom Adams said the work has been delayed because the public works department has been understaffed.

The bike path section has been closed since Hurricane Sandy hit the Lehigh Valley. The section endured Sandy's wrath in late October, causing major tree damage along the Lehigh River.
