A Palmer Township dentist and former Lower Nazareth Township supervisor was among five men and one woman charged in a police-orchestrated prostitution sting at a local hotel, according to a press release issued Monday by Colonial Regional Police.
Police say Alan V. Dilsaver, 56, of the 300 block of Hillview Drive, Lower Nazareth, answered an Internet advertisement on Dec. 14 and offered an undercover Northampton County Sheriff’s deputy money for sex acts.
Dilsaver, the dentist at Lehigh Valley Smiles in Palmer Township, has been practicing dentistry since 1983. According to www.lehighvalleysmiles.com, Dilsaver was elected to the Lower Nazareth Board of Supervisors in 1998 and appointed chairman in 2000. He is no longer on the board.
During his tenure, his website says, he was a representative for the Hecktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Park and Recreation Commission.
Also charged Dec. 14 were:
- Salvatore Basile, 43, 4000 block of Kathi Drive, Hanover Township (Northampton County)
- Rikin Patel, 26, 4000 block of Main St., Whitehall Township
- Mohamad Asaf, 18, 600 block of 5th St., Allentown
The seven-hour sting operation netted four other arrests, including a Berks County couple.
According to police, Karen Landau, 34, of Barto allegedly posted an Internet advertisement and offered to perform sex acts -- for money -- on an undercover Colonial Regional officer.
She was charged with prostitution and her husband, George Landau, 38, was charged with promoting prostitution. Police say he allegedly drove his wife to the hotel and “checked the room for her safety.” Police are not naming the hotel where the sting took place except to say it is in Hanover Township, Northampton County.
The five men and one woman were released and will each receive a summons via District Judge James Narlesky’s office.
Two Nazareth residents are in Northampton County Prison after allegedly selling methamphetamine to an undercover officer for $50.
In addition to drug charges, police say, Thad Louis Starner, 39, and Monique Damaro, 34, who live in the same apartment on S. Whitfield Street, are also facing prostitution charges. A press release did not elaborate.
According to police, Damaro was also found in possession of “loaded syringes” and Xanax, which is used to treat anxiety and panic disorder.
Damaro and Starner were arraigned in front of on-duty District Judge Jackie Taschner of Palmer Township. Both remained in Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
Both were charged with two felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and two felony counts of conspiracy – manufacture.
Damaro also has a misdemeanor charge of intentionally possessing a controlled or counterfeit substance, and Starner has a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy – use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Starner faced assault charges in Sept. 2011 after a verbal and physical altercation left his girlfriend with a chipped tooth, according to police.
Police found Starner’s girlfriend in the S. Whitfield Street apartment with a tooth that appeared to be chipped, redness on her neck and abrasions near her collarbone. The victim told police that Starner put his hand over her mouth during the argument, which resulted in her front tooth being chipped.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest has occurred or charges have been filed is merely an accusation; defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
