Palmer Police Crack Down on Speeding

25 mph speed limit sign selected for Bridlepath Road after Palmer Police Department studies speeds there.

Speeding on one Palmer Township street is getting nipped in the bud.

After an 11-day study by the township Police Department, recommended to the Board of Supervisors that Bridlepath Road get a 25 mph speed limit sign.

Supervisors approved the recommendation at their meeting Monday night.

Following up a resident's request, Public Works Director Tom Adams got input from the police department to check speeds on that road.

After monitoring 7,880 cars -- about 747 a day on that stretch -- Palmer concluded that the speed limit should be set at 25 mph.

During the investigation, Palmer said the study showed the average speed limit to be 22 mph, but that at times it increased to 28 mph. The fatest car was clocked at 56 mph.

"The speeds were elevated," the chief said. "They weren't crazy, but they do warrant a sign."

The chief said he would next focus on Northwood Avenue by placing some speed lines on the road to monitoring speeds.

"There are some speed issues on Northwood Avenue," he said.
