Palmer Pool Considered Blueprint for Nazareth

The Nazareth Pool Committee presented a report to the public at a special meeting Monday in which Palmer Community Pool was touted.

The Palmer Community Pool may be worth copying as Nazareth's new pool.

The new Nazareth pool may resemble the old Palmer Community Pool.

In a special meeting Monday night, the Nazareth Pool Committee presented a report to about 20 members of the public in which members stated how they visited a handful of area pools to get an idea of what might suit Nazareth best.

The committee visited pools in Palmer Township, Easton, Quakertown, Hanover Township, Boyertown and Saucon Valley.

They checked out the features of each and the consensus, according to committee member Harry Adams, was that Palmer's pool might be a perfect blueprint for Nazareth to follow.

"It's very simplistic, but it has everything to offer," said Adams, who visited pools in Palmer, Wilson, Easton and Bangor. "We are seriously looking at the design."

One main feature for committee member Amy Lutte, who is Nazareth Area High School's swimming and diving coach, is that Palmer features a competition pool.

Lutte said the U-shaped design of Palmer's pool allows for two teams being able to compete in a 50-meter swim and a 25-yard swim.

Palmer’s pool, built in the mid-1960s, also features two diving boards and a separate baby pool, a snack bar area and changing rooms.

Jeanette Hartzell, Nazareth's pool and summer recreation program director, also likes that Palmer offers adult swim sessions, movie nights and other features.
