Palmer Proud of State Attention On Rte. 33 Interchange

Palmer Township supervisors said they were pleased with state representation at Route 33 Interchange groundbreaking last week.

The governor just doesn't show up in Palmer Township every day.

But Gov. Tom Corbett and numerous state dignitaries showed up last Thursday at a groundbreaking ceremony on the Route 33 Interchange project, and Palmer officials said after Monday night's Board of Supervisors meeting that they couldn't be prouder.

"It was a really nice event with quality people and caliber of the speeches," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said.

"It was a beautiful affair," Supervisor Ann-Marie Panella said.

Colver mentioned how state Rep. Joe Emrick attended along with state Sen. Bob Mensch and new congressman Matt Cartwright and two other congressmen.

"Any time you can get all those people in one place ..." Colver said.

Colver said that the ceremony had seating for 175, but about 200 people showed up for the groundbreaking of the Route 33 Interchange project, which is expected to be completed in late 2014.

Corbett, though, was the main attraction. After all, he's the governor.

But it wasn't his first time in Palmer.

Colver said Corbett attended Palmer Community Days two years ago.

"He was here for about an hour," Colver said. "It was around election time. I showed him around."
