Palmer Police Chief Bruce Fretz Retires Today

Police Chief Bruce Fretz served Palmer Township for 41 years. His last day as police chief is today.

After 41 years on force, retires today.

Fretz, 62, said after 41 years, it was time to focus his attention on his family. That, and hunting. He said he’s an avid hunter; you name it, he hunts it.

"I appreciate the opportunity to have served the township," Fretz said. "But it's time to move on."

Fretz was hired as a part-time officer in 1970, promoted to full time in 1972 and worked his way up the chain of command to become chief on April 1, 1990.

On Tuesday, Palmer Township's Board of Supervisors , but also said a fond farewell to Fretz.

"I want to thank the outgoing police chief. It's his last official meeting," Township Manager said. "Bruce, you've been a great person to work with. Forty years of service is something that should be recognized for the record."

During their reports, each supervisor took a turn thanking Fretz.

"The chief is a great guy," Supervisor Robert Smith said. "Forty-one years is something to say."

"I echo the same thing," Supervisor Bob Lammi said. "The chief and I go way back. Our kids know each other and we live close, a few streets away. I've always respected Bruce and his family and I appreciate what you've done."

"I offer my best to you," Supervisor Ann-Marie Panella said. Enjoy life, it's short. I wish you and your family all the happiness in the world."

"Enjoy the deer hunting," Supervisor K. Michael Mitchell told the chief.
