Palmer Makes new Deal for Gas
Palmer supervisors award bids to suppliers of the township's diesel and gasoline.
Palmer supervisors on Monday approved the purchase of about $310,000 of diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline for the township’s use this year.
The supervisors chose Petroleum Traders Corp., based in Fort Wayne, Ind., to provide 45,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline at $3.379 a gallon, and Isobunkers LLC in Fleetwood for 44,000 of diesel at $3.589 a gallon.
The best price on the street is $3.59 at the Wawa on 25th Street. The Exxon on Wood Avenue has diesel at $4.10.

The township benefits from buying fuel in bulk and in advance to get better prices.
Four companies submitted bids to be the township’s fuel provider. Petroleum Traders was the sole provider to Palmer in 2011, said Tom Adams, the township’s director of public works.

The supervisors picked it for having the best gasoline price, and Isobunkers for diesel.
The problem was that from the time the bids were submitted to the time they were accepted, fuel prices went up.
But the supervisors agreed to accept the bids but only at last week’s prices. Both bidders agreed to those terms.
