Peddler Permits Stressed in Forks

Forks Township has received solicitation complaints in the past month.

After receiving numerous complaints from residents about unwarranted solicitations, Forks Township is setting the record straight.

In its newsletter that arrived in township mailboxes Friday, residents were informed that peddlers must have permits before soliciting door-to-door.

To obtain a permit, people need to provide a photo ID, type of vehicle, type of goods or services, and each person must have his or her own license.

Forks Township Police said they recently received numerous complaints from residents regarding door-to-door solicitors selling everything from household cleaner to self-help books.

The newsletter advises that any resident who is solicited should ask to see a license. That license should bear the township seal and indicate the date when the solicitation may occur.

Anyone with doubts about a peddler or a permit should contact the police department immediately.

Palmer Township has also cracked down on solicitors recently.
