"You see them all over ," said supervisors chairman Dave Colver. "We thought it was best to be proactive."

Township Solicitor Charles Bruno said the township ordinance currently prohibits digital signs, but "to be consistent with the times, we should consider changes and restrict where they can be put."

"We need to restrict them to commercial and make sure they're not facing residential areas," Bruno continued.

Bruno said a resolution that the supervisors approved would then be forwarded to the planning commission before coming back to the supervisors for a public hearing. The resolution says the issue should be examined and directs the planning commission to proceed.

"This is a start," he said.

Supervisor Bob Lammi agreed, stating that if the township didn't put restrictions and regulations in place, there would be a lot of pressure instead of supervisors having control.

Colver said industry standards should be examined to determine how big the signs should be, if there are issues of illumination and how often the sign advertisements change.

He also said there is a question of who inspects the signs and how much an inspection fee should be.
