Sinkhole Concerns Surface at Bushkill Stream Conservancy Meeting
An active sinkhole environment within the Bushkill Stream poses continued concern for residents and officials.
Members of the Bushkill Stream Conservancy discussed the status of sinkholes within the Bushkill Stream during its meeting Tuesday night.
Conservancy member Linda Iudicello said Hercules Cement Co. Inc. in Stockertown informed her that sinkholes in the Bushkill have grown.
According to Iudicello, quarry pumps at the company send 52 million to 54 million gallons of water into the stream per day. Recent studies conducted by Hercules shows that 9,000 gallons of water per minute are going somewhere else. That place is yet to be determined, added Iudicello.

Iudicello said she would continue to update board members on the matter.
In other business, members discussed how PPL Corporation is "aggressively maintaining" grounds along its 500 kilovolt and 230 kilovolt power lines.

According to Jim Moser, conservancy member, he and Lafayette College professor John Wilson discussed with PPL their concerns about environment disruption along the watershed area.
PPL officials told Moser and Wilson that they would re-vegetate the areas disrupted with various plant life and trees that do not grow tall enough to reach the power lines.
“I think that’s progress,” said Matt Glennon, the Bushkill Stream Conservancy president.
The Bushkill Stream Conservancy meets the third Tuesday of the month in the Tatamy Municipal Building, 423 Broad Street.
