Tatamy Bridge Reopens to Traffic

The Tatamy Bridge Reopened Wednesday after being closed for two years.

Tatamy had a major celebration Wednesday: The Main Street Bridge was opening after two years.

Residents turned out to watch Tatamy officials, representatives from Forks Township and PennDOT officials for a dedication ceremony Wednesday morning to reopen the bridge that connects the borough with Forks Township over the Bushkill Creek.

"It's a big day for us," Tatamy Council President Chris Moren said. "We were waiting a long time — two years and two months. This is a huge event. We're very happy."

Moren spoke to residents for a few minutes before a ribbon cutting, saying that the bridge may last between 75 and 100 years.

"It's a sturdy structure," he said, "that will last a long time."

The crowd cheered as the ribbon was cut and then a Tatamy police car and fire truck drove over it. They were then followed by residents who walked the span into Forks Township.

"It's fantastic," said Forks Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss, who attended the ceremony with Zoning Officer Tim Weis. "It's a very important bridge for its access into and out of Forks. It's been repaired and is in great shape. It's going to benefit us."
