U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright to Open Easton Office

Matt Cartwright, Palmer/Forks new congressman, plans to set up new headquarters on Northampton Street in Easton.

Palmer/Forks's new congressman says he's setting up an office in nearby Easton.

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright will open an office at 436 Northampton Street, his office said in a news release.

He'll operate out of an office on the 9th floor of Easton city hall until the renovations on the building are finished.

Cartwright -- who was sworn in earlier this month -- has been named to the house's Economic Development Subcommittee, a joint task force on gun violence, and was elected "class president" of this year's freshman congress.

Cartwright, a Democrat, represents the 17th district, which was created in 2011 by redistricting, and is made up of the counties of Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Schuylkill, Luzerne and Lackawanna.

In Northampton County, the 17th district now includes Easton and a sliver of the city of Bethlehem, along with Palmer, Forks, Upper Nazareth and Bethlehem townships and the borough of Nazareth. All of these places had previously been in Charlie Dent’s 15th Congressional District.
