Start School After Labor Day, Patch Facebook Readers Say

Patch readers respond to school season's start

Classes begin in the Easton Area School District the Monday before Labor Day.

But for many commenting on the Palmer-Forks Facebook page about starting school after Labor Day, they'd like a little longer summer vacation.

"Yes it should start after Labor Day and let everyone finish their summer! The kids can get out 4 days later in June. They finish sooner than most schools/states anyway," Debbie DeRogatis said.

"Schools should start after Labor Day — like when we were in school! Starting before just interrupts the end of your summer, and ruins any last-minute vacation plans. Summer ends too soon as it is," Laura O'Reilly said.

"After Labor Day would be much better!! Spring sports continue through the end of June, so not much of a summer vacation when they go back in August," Michelle Dagon Green said.

About 800 people saw the post and 20 people provided comments.

Some parents said, though, that the schedule should remain the same.

"I find it a great way to start, go to school for a week, get adjusted, get one more long weekend to regroup and refocus, then hit the ground running," said Daniel Berndt.

"I agree, I like that for a few days it gets the kids back in the grove of school and when they come back from Labor day weekend they are 100% ready to start," Brian Maffia said.
