Tell Us: Will Easton's Football Bag Ban Affect You?

Backpacks and other large bags are no longer welcome at Easton's Cottingham Stadium, the school district said Thursday.

"While students and the general public were discouraged from bringing backpacks and other large bags into home games in the past, the district did not enforce the ban completely," school Superintendent John Reinhart said in a message posted on the district website.

That's going to change at Friday night's football game.

"Beginning with tomorrow night’s game against Freedom High School, anyone attempting to bring a backpack and large bag into the stadium will be prevented from entering," Reinhart wrote.

So what happens if you have small children or some other situation that means you have to bring a bag in?

Put what you need in a clear plastic bag, the district says.

"If circumstances require that a bag be brought into the stadium, please be prepared to have it searched," the news release says. 

It adds that the district is making the move to "maintain a safe and pleasant atmosphere" for students and fans.

The announcement comes one day after Easton Area elementary schools moved phys ed classes and recess indoors in response to a threat from Lehigh County man about violence at local schools.

Easton Area High School has been evacuated twice this school year, once due to a bomb threat, and once when message about the school "going up in flames" was found on a bathroom wall.
