Easton/P'Burg Thanksgiving Game Switches Channels

Annual Thanksgiving Day football game will be shown on Service Electric

hen the Easton/Phillipsburg Thanksgiving Day game is broadcast this year, it will be on a new network. It also won't be live.

The Easton Area School Board approved an agreement Tuesday night with Service Electric, which will show the 2013, 2014 and 2015 games.

Easton Athletic Director James Pokrivsak said the switch helps fans in Phillipsburg, where RCN—which had broadcast past games—doesn't broadcast.

The game will also be shown with a tape delay, Pokrivsak said, as an effort to sell more tickets to the actual event.

"We see the trend of live TV taking away from that game," he told the board.

Last year, the district lost $9,000 in unsold tickets. Pokrivsak said the game will also be broadcast online.

The agreement with Service Electric calls for the cable company to—among other things—give $2,500 to the game, provide live coverage of pre-game events, and broadcast commercials to promote the game.
