Opening Day for Miracle League Near

Ceremony will take place to christen Miracle League field and start of play in Palmer Township on Sept. 9.

The new in will be christened with an Opening Day ceremony and dedication on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Festivities take place starting at 12:30 p.m.

The field is on the grounds of the Charles Chrin Community Center on Green Pond Road.

The ceremony will consist of remarks by Richard Agretto, president of the of Northampton County; Dave Colver, chairman of the Palmer Township Board of Supervisors; John Stoffa, Northampton County executive, and other dignitaries.

The remarks will be followed by a benediction and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After a chorus of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," there will be a call for "Play Ball" as teams take the field to begin play.

The state-of-the-art field includes a 1,600-square-foot Family Center featuring concession stands and restrooms, a picnic pavilion, covered dugouts for players, bleachers for fans, a sound system, a video message board and a barrier-free, rubberized playing surface.

The Miracle League enables children with disabilities to play baseball on a specially equipped field.
