Palmer 5K Off to the Races Saturday

Palmer 5K planned for Aug. 17.

The Palmer Business, Industry and Professional Group is hosting its second annual Palmer 5k run/walk during Palmer Township Community Days.

The race begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Race director Jeff Kicska said he is looking forward to this year’s event surpassing the success of the inaugural run held last August.

“We were thrilled with the turnout last year," he said. "Over 200 runners and walkers participated in the event and we expect even more this year.”

Kicska is no stranger to running.

With his wife, Mary, he has participated in over 50 races in the past two years, including running a half marathon on his honeymoon.

“I’ve been able to experience many great events and learn all of the necessary attributes of a quality race," he said. "The Palmer 5k has it all: Great course, an impressive food table, professional timing, entertainment, and prizes."

The race begins and ends in Fairview Park.

“The course is a fast and flat out and back along the beautifully landscaped bike path. This is an awesome course for beginners or experienced runners looking to set a personal record,” he explained. “Runners of all abilities and ages and walkers are sure to have a great time!”

The Miracle League of Northampton County has been chosen as the annual benefactor of the race.

The specially designed Miracle League field provides children of all abilities with the opportunity to play ball.

Palmer BIP donated $5,000 to the Miracle League from last year’s race and hopes this year’s check is even bigger.

“We are all volunteers who want to give back to the community.  Supporting kids and promoting a healthy lifestyle drives our efforts” he stated.
