Spirit of the Lehigh Valley Volunteers: 'This Makes My Heart Feel Good'

There were students from Bethlehem Catholic, people who follow volunteering message boards, moms who wanted something to do with their kids.

They'd all come to the ballroom at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville to volunteer for the Spirit of the Lehigh Valley's annual Christmas banquet.

The banquet isn't until Christmas Eve, but there was still a lot of work to be done. A giant pile of toys waited on the floor to be wrapped.

The volunteers—at least 75 of them—worked quietly, quickly and happily.

"This makes my heart feel good," said Charlene Campbell, of Allentown, wrapping games at a table.

The Spirit of the Lehigh Valley still needs 200 volunteers to serve food, clean up and pass out gifts to the families who attend its Christmas Eve event.

Volunteers work in two-hour intervals from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. If you'd like to help, contact volunteer coordinator Ed Yakimowicz at 610-530-4629.
