'42' Movie, TomatoFest Highlight Weekend Festivities

Last weekend before students begin in Easton Area School District.

It's the last weekend for youngsters who live in Palmer and Forks Townships to enjoy their summer.

School starts Monday in the Easton Area School District. Everyone may wish they had the final fling of summer through the Labor Day weekend, but school starts a little earlier than elsewhere.

Still, there's plenty to do this weekend:

  • If you like baseball, Forks Township will be showing its last movie in its Movies in the Park series. It's the movie "42," the story of baseball legend Jackie Robinson. For more information, click here.
  • If you like garage and yard sales, there's a slew of them Saturday. See our calendar of events for more information.
  • And of course farmers markets are held in Easton and Nazareth on Saturday.
  • The biggest event this weekend is the annual TomatoFest. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the market will focus on "summer’s finest fruit," with a series of competitions.
Home growers can compete to see who has the biggest, ugliest and best tasting tomatoes. Local bartenders will try to make the best Bloody Mary. And from 10 a.m. until noon there's the Market Marinara Contest.
