As construction of Allentown's hockey arena continues, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms are offering an electronic newsletter to keep fans informed.
The countdown to the 2014 opening of the PPL Center in Allentown is on and fans can sign up for a free electronic newletter to stay up to date on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms professional hockey franchise. Visit the Phantoms website and click on "stay informed" to sign up for the newsletter. Fans can also join the season ticket priority list by signing up online or calling 610-224-4625. Season ticket prices start at $600. Construction of the 8,500-seat PPL Center in Allentown where the Phantoms will play continues. The team had an open practice in Bethlehem last month. Two Forks Township women had just completed the Boston Marathon Monday when the bombs exploded. They escaped injury.
Amy Gleason and Allison Zimmerman had just crossed the finished line. Then minutes later, two bombs went off, and the two Forks Township women and their families were running for safety. "It feels like the marathon was 10 years ago now," Gleason said during a phone interview from her Boston hotel room. Gleason, running in her third Boston marathon, had finished the race about 20 minutes earlier and was waiting for her friend Allison to complete, which she did seven minutes before the bombs struck, killing at least three and injuring more than 130 people. The Palmer Athletic Association will take sign-ups for field hockey, football and cheerleading and soccer starting May 1.
It's never to early to start thinking about football. With that in mind, the Palmer Athletic Association will start taking sign-ups for fall 2013 sports starting on May 1. Registration for field hockey takes place from May 1 to June 30; football and cheerleading from May 1 through May 31 and soccer from May 1 to June 15. You can sign up online here. All participants must be Palmer Township residents. First-time participants must provide a copy of the child's birth certificate. Age requirements will be listed on the registration page and practice schedules and information will be provided at sign-ups or via email shortly after the close of registrations. Former principals of Circle Systems Group in Palmer Township overcharged districts, exchanged gifts for work, U.S. Attorney says.
Two former executives of a Palmer Township athletic equipment supply firm each face 20 years in prison after admitting their roles in a scheme to defraud schools. Mitchell Kurlander, 54, of South Whitehall, and his father-in-law, Alan Abeshaus, 81, of Highland Beach, Fla., pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Newark, NJ to one count of mail and wire fraud conspiracy. he Easton Express-Times said Kurlander is from South Whitehall and Abeshaus was a former Palmer Township resident. Kurlander and Abeshaus served as chief financial officer and chief executive officer, respectively, of Circle Systems Group Inc., which had contracts with a number of Pennsylvania and New Jersey school districts. Coca-Cola Park will be the first sports venue in the world to feature a new "Urinal Gaming System,” allowing fans to interact with the world's only truly hands-free urinal game controller, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs announced Tuesday. When tickets for the 2013 U.S. Open, to be held at Merion Golf Club, went on sale in June, many categories quickly sold out. “Due to space constraints, only 25,000 spectator tickets will be sold, which is significantly fewer tickets than a typical U.S. Open,” the ticketing website reads. Tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are completely sold out, according to the ticketing site, as are passes for the entire week. But, there are still tickets available for the June 10-16 event.
