Beyond Cakes Gets Sweet Reception Tuesday

The new Forks Township bakery replaces Antonella's on Sullivan Trail.

This is going to be one sweet reception. When Antonella's bakery decided to sell its business in mid-February, the Forks Township storefront didn't stay empty for too long. And Forks Township residents didn't lose a bakery either. Out went Antonella's and in came Beyond Cakes, which will have its grand opening and ribbon cutting Tuesday. The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold the ribbon cutting with a welcoming ceremony at the bakery on 1700 Sullivan Trail from 5-7 p.m. and the ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. The event is also sponsored by the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township. Beyond Cakes offers all occasion cakes, pastries, cupcakes, danishes, breads, tomato pie and breakfast sandwiches. The bakery also …

The survey can be found at the Forks Township municipal building. The survey must be completed by March 29. It should be mailed to the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, Att: BCAF Business Guide, 158A Northampton Street, Easton PA 18042 or faxed to 610-330-9177 …

$5,000 Donation Rejected by Forks Supervisors

The Forks Township Board of Supervisors voted against giving a $5,000 donation to the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township.

It wasn't the first time the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township has been rejected by the Forks Township Board of Supervisors. And it might not be the last. The business group had hoped to get a $5,000 donation from the supervisors to offset some of its operating costs. But since the township is under financial constraints, the measure was rejected in a close vote. Alison Miers appeared before the supervisors at their recent meeting to ask for a $5,000 donation that would help pay for initiatives such as a real estate tour, business roundtables, a business guide and marketing and promotional efforts. But, like the time Miers requested a matching grant to post welcome signs in Forks Township, the supervisors balked at the …

Forks Fights Over Supervisor Appointments

Forks Township supervisors chose representatives for BCAF and TRCOG at its reorganization meeting.

Forks Township's Board of Supervisors started the new year not with a bang, but with bickering. At the recent reorganization meeting, the supervisors voted for annual appointments in which their members serve as representatives on various local and regional boards. Those board reports are issued at each monthly supervisors meeting and the supervisors will attend functions and meetings of those boards. During the reorganization earlier this month, there was some controversy over which supervisors would serve on the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township and the regional Two Rivers Council on Governments. And Supervisor David Billings was not pleased with either appointment. Last year, Billings served as Forks' representative on…

Brett I have never considered BCAF a pro Business Group, or even a part of the Business Community. It was founded with input from the Board of Supervisors as almost a Committee. BCAF has never advanced any Pro Business ideas or supported the Business Community within Forks Township. It was formed mostly to reach into the pockets of Big Corporate Forks Township to fund Supervisor Pet Projects like…   more ›

BCAF Plans Another Business Roundtable

Forks Township Manager John Cornell recently updated public on business organization's latest efforts.

The Forks Business and Commerce Association is keeping busy. At a recent Board of Supervisors meeting, Forks Township Manager John Cornell updated the board and public about the business organization's plans. After holding two business roundtables, BCAF will probably have another sometime starting in the new year. "They're looking to put together another to attract larger businesses," Cornell said. Another plan BCAF's economic development committee is working on is a brochure to promote businesses in Forks Township. Also on the agenda is creating an events committee that would coordinate with the Forks Recreation Department to make the community aware of big events being held in Forks Township. Coming up next year as well will be a joint …
