Big Woody’s Opens Today

Big Woody's in Forks Township is reopening after nearly three months of repairs due to a sinkhole.

After a massive sinkhole opened up behind the Big Woody’s Sports Bar and Grill on Sullivan Trial in August, the business closed for repairs and renovations until today. Besides pulling the business out of the sinkhole, the restaurant also added more TVs, including two new projector big screens. After Hurricane Irene, all the businesses in the strip mall where Big Woody’s is located had to close. Jasmine, Ivy Cleaners and SuperCuts reopened in September, but Big Woody’s required more work. Zoning Officer Tim Weiss said that more than 200 yards of concrete had to be poured under the building to fill the void left by the sinkhole. According to its website, on Saturday the Hawk, 99.9 will broadcast live at Woody's from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with …

Big Woody's Reopening Delayed for Another Month

Forks Township sports bar KO'd by sinkhole damage.

The wait for Big Woody's to reopen will be a little longer. Forks Township officials said that it may be another month before the sports bar and grill reopens its doors following sinkhole damage caused in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. While Jasmine, Ivy Cleaners and SuperCuts reopened their businesses a little more than a week ago, Forks Township manager Richard Schnaedter said the forecast for Big Woody's is calling for sometime in late October. Zoning Officer Tim Weiss said work still remains at Woody's before it gets a clean bill of health. "The building is going to be in good shape," Weiss said. "It's just a matter of time." Weiss has visited the site at 1855 Sullivan Trail several times since a water line ruptured on Aug. 28, …

Sullivan Trail Businesses Okayed to Open

Big Woody's remains closed but Ivy Cleaners, CC Wireless, Jasmine Restaurant and Supercuts get OK.

It has been nearly three weeks since a water main break and sinkholes shut a group of businesses at 1855 Sullivan Trail, but now Forks Township has given permission for all but one to reopen. Ivy Cleaners is open once again after the municipality gave the okay for it and the other businesses to reopen. The building, which also houses Big Woody's Sports Bar and Restaurant, was closed on Aug. 28 following a water main break and subsequent sinkholes at the rear portion of the restaurant. According to township zoning officer Tim Weis, the businesses were deemed safe to reopen as of Tuesday. But Big Woody's, which sustained the majority of the structrual damage, remains closed as repairs continue. "We gave the okay to turn on the gas and …

Big Woody's Not Ready for Football Sunday

Sullivan Trail sports bar remains closed nearly two weeks after huge sinkhole opened up behind establishment.

Are you ready for some football? Justin Marcks is, but the general manager of Big Woody's Sports Bar and Restaurant said the Forks Township business, sunk by a sinkhole shortly after Hurricane Irene, won't be ready to open Sunday. "I'm really bummed," he said of the closure. "It's one of the worst disasters of my life." Marcks is the son of the restaurant chain's owner. Big Woody's was among the five businesses in the plaza at 1855 Sullivan Trail near Ace Hardware shut down by a massive sinkhole that developed when Hurricane Irene swept into the region two weeks ago. Signage posted on the front of some of the businesses say the closures are due to “structural damage." Marcks, who also serves as the general manager of the Big Woody's in …

Big Woody's and Other Businesses Still Closed

One week after massive sinkhole opens up repairs are incomplete.

One week after a massive sinkhole opened up behind the Big Woody’s Sports Bar and Grill, businesses in the Sullivan Trial strip remain closed. Signage outside the Supercuts says the business remains closed due to “structural damage”. Workers have been working to repair a water line that ruptured on Aug. 28 causing a sinkhole to open up at 1855 Sullivan Trail, right behind Big Woody’s. The five businesses located in the lot, including Big Woody’s were shut down by the township and gas lines were cut off. It is not believed that Hurricane Irene was to blame for the water line rupture. On the website for Big Woody’s, officials for the four-chain restaurant posted an announcement saying the location won’t be open until further notice. The …
