York-based Bon-Ton reports fourth quarter sales and figures for January.
The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. has announced sales for the five, 14 and 53 weeks ended Feb. 2, in accordance with the National Retail Federation fiscal reporting calendar. The comparable percentage change information presented below is based upon comparison of the four, 13 and 52f weeks ended Jan. 26, with the prior year corresponding periods ended Jan. 28. Comparable store sales in the four weeks ended January 26, 2013 decreased 0.4%, compared with the four-week period last year for the Bon-Ton, which has a store in the Palmer Park Mall. Total sales for the five weeks ended February 2, 2013 increased 15.2% to $200.8 million, compared with $174.4 million in the four-week period last year. Sales at Bon-Ton stores rose 2.4 percent during December.
The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. has announced comparable store sales in the five weeks ended Dec. 29 increased 2.4 percent. Total sales increased 1.5 percent to $512.9 million in the current year, compared with $505.2 million in the prior year period. Year-to-date comparable store sales increased 0.6 percent. Year-to-date total sales increased 0.3 percent to $2.718 billion, compared with $2.710 billion in the same period last year. Bon-Ton has a store in the Palmer Park Mall in Palmer Township. Palmer Township man suspected of taking money from Bon-Ton cash registers, court records say.
An employee of the Bon Ton in the Palmer Park Mall is accused of stealing $375 from the department store’s cash registers, according to court papers. Thomas D. Gaillard, 24, of 2120 Gruver Ave., Palmer Township, was turned over to Palmer Township police Wednesday by store security after the thefts were discovered, according to an arrest affidavit. It is alleged that the thefts happened at two different store cash registers on four separate occasions beginning on July 5 and ending on July 14. He is accused of taking $70 on July 5, $100 from on July 6, $85 from on July 10 and $120 on July 14. The affidavit says Gaillard admitted to the thefts to store security and to the investigating officer. Gaillard was charged with theft by unlawful …

Bon-Ton, which has stores at Palmer Park Mall near Easton and Westgate Mall in Bethlehem, made more money in May, marking an improvement over sales that dropped in April. The York-based department store chain says business is improving thanks to new merchandise, a revamped marketing plan and stronger online sales. Total revenue for four weeks that ended May 26 rose 1.2 percent to $183.1 million. Year-to-date, total sales fell 0.8 percent to $823.9 million. Bon-Ton has 272 stores, including 11 furniture galleries, in 23 states.
