Braden Airpark Loses Moyer Aviation

Moyer Aviation's departure Wednesday leaves a void at Braden Airpark in Forks Township.

The planes will fly no more over Forks Township. Moyer Aviation pulled out of Braden Airpark Wednesday, leaving a void on Sullivan Trail where small planes would take off and fly around the area. "Yesterday [Wednesday] was Moyer Aviation's last day at Braden Airpark," Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said. "Personally, having had a relationship with Moyer Aviation as a township representative and as a customer, I am very sad to see them leaving." The possible sale of Braden Airpark may have led Vern Moyer to take flight from Forks. Moyer moved his aviation operation to the Pocono. "As I have always said, I am saddened Moyer Aviation has decided to leave Forks Township," Supervisor David Billings said. "I am curious why?" Moyer Aviation …

Anyone that would like to see the Lehigh Valley Airport Authority 5 year plan for Braden's Airpark, I would gladly show it to you. I received it from the LVAA. Mr Leiser was correct on one part the FTCC fought the LVAA. We fought to KEEP the airport they way we all had known it since we were small children. I grew up here I did not want the township to turn into another airport issue. Had it not …   more ›

Braden Airpark Sale Still Up in the Air

Forks Township officials give update on Braden Airpark's future, which may include a sale of the property.

The status of the sale of Braden Airpark is still up in the air. Forks Township officials provided an update on the property at the Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday night, stating that Lehigh Valley Airport Authority representatives are in discussions with Lafayette College. Township Manager John Cornell said he attended a Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township meeting on April 10 with airport authority representatives for a status update. While the authority is trying to shed debt by selling some of its properties, Cornell said that the Sullivan Trail airport—which will soon be vacated by Moyer Aviation—might not be on the for-sale list. "We asked where they envision Braden and there wasn't a desire to acquire the …

Moyer Aviation to Take Flight from Forks

With Braden Airpark possibly for sale, Moyer Aviation will move to the Poconos in next few months.

The possible sale of Braden Airpark has Vern Moyer sold on one thing: It's time for Moyer Aviation to take flight from Forks Township. Moyer is moving his aviation operation to the Poconos starting May 1 after 16 years of his small planes flying all around Forks Township, the Easton-Express states. The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority has the Sullivan Trail site on its list of properties for potential sale to reduce mounting debt, and a decision is expected in the near future. But Moyer's decision completely caught Forks Township officials off guard. "This is an interesting and sad turn of events," Supervisor David Billings said. “Moyer Aviation has been a pillar of our community for a long time. I would need to better understand the …

2012 Year in Review: Forks/Palmer Businesses

Business was big in Forks and Palmer townships in 2012.

The Park Plaza at Sullivan Trail in Forks Township was the main attraction in terms of business development in 2012 for Forks and Palmer townships. The plaza, converted from an old retail outlet, rose from the ashes to sparkle as a centerpiece of Forks' business district. But while the building sparkled, its space wasn't filled immediately by tenants. A branch of Easton Hospital, a hair salon and two recreational businesses geared to children -- GymTime and Bounce U -- are the only tenants so far. Plans to add a vineyard store fell through. For the Palmer Park Mall, there were many comings and goings. Four new stores opened and several closed during the year. The mall welcomed a new book store, a toy store and Spencer's while it lost one …

What Will Become of the Braden Airpark?

Decision could come in January on whether Forks Township airport remains the same or is transformed by a developer.

One day, Braden Airpark might not be an airport. While the consultant for the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority has decided not to buy the Sullivan Trail site in Forks Township, the airpark still could be sold. But that depends on whether the consultant, the Rockefeller Group, decides whether the 80-acre site could be transformed into something suitable for a developer. Forks Township officials recently held a meeting with LNAA representatives and the consultant, part of initial meetings the authority also had with East Allen and Hanover townships. "It was great, beneficial to us, beneficial to them," Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said. Chuss said airport authority representatives may be returning to talk more in January and may also …

No Sale of Braden Airpark in Forks?

Forks Township officials say that Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority consultant not interested in buying Sullivan Trail airport site.

"It's all premature," Forks Township Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss stressed. But the Braden Airpark on Sullivan Trail might not be sold, at least not to a key developer, Chuss mentioned at Thursday night's supervisors work session. In a letter to the supervisoprs about a Nov. 30 introductory meeting between Forks and airport officials, Township Manager John Cornell wrote "the representatives present stated that the Rockefeller Group [airport authority consultant] does not have an interest in purchasing the Braden Airpark." "They're leaning against it," Chuss said. The airport authority is examining all its properties for potential sale to pay off a massive debt. Forks officials sought a meeting with the airport authority and the …

Would Lafayette College buy Braden Airpark?

The College Hill-based college owns athletic fields in Forks Township near the airport.

Lafayette College, a stone's throw away in College Hill, owns some land in Forks Township, including a spot for a garden and another for athletic fields. So it makes sense that the college might want to purchase nearby Braden Airpark to expand its facilities. That's what some Forks Township officials mentioned at a recent meeting when the airpark, one of the properties pondered for sale by the Lehigh Valley Airport Authority, once again became the hot topic. Forks Township officials are wondering what will become of the airpark if it is sold and is asking the airport authority for input and a discussion. But Lafayette College officials are mum on their interest over the airpark, according to the Easton Express-Times. According to a …

Braden Airpark Sale Decision Expected Sooner

Forks Township adopts resolution seeking input on Braden Airpark potential sale.

Forks Township supervisors now have a resolution in place seeking input on the potential sale of the Braden Airpark on Sullivan Trail. But will they get their chance? Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss stated at Thursday night's Board of Supervisors meeting that the Lehigh Valley Airport Authority and its consultant may make a decision on what properties it might sell in the near future. "A lot of rumors are circulating around," Chuss said. "Nothing has been decided yet. But the decision might be in less than four weeks. Their recommendation is coming up quicker than they indicated." Township Solicitor Karl Kline presented supervisors with a resolution urging the LVAA and its consultant to appear at a public meeting to discuss the zoning of …

Forks Mulls Braden Airpark Resolution

Forks Township officials want say in development if Braden Airpark is sold.

It's one of Forks Township's hottest topics. For the past few meetings over the past few months, Forks Township officials have raised concerns about what might happen should the Braden Airpark be sold. The site on Sullivan Trail near Weis Markets would be open for development and Forks officials want to ensure that any developer understands the zoning issues going into any decision. With that in mind, Forks Township may adopt a resolution at its Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday night asking the Lehigh Valley Airport Authority and its consultants -- who are evaluating all of the authority's airports for potential sale -- to keep a line of communications open. At a recent work session, supervisors asked Solicitor Karl Kline to draft a …

Forks: Talk To Us Before Selling Braden Airpark

The Forks Township Board of Supervisors will draft a resolution asking for discussion, input on future plans if Braden Airpark is sold.

Forks Township wants discussion and input on any decision regarding Braden Airpark. With the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority pondering selling the airport and its other properties to pay off debt, Forks Township wants to protect itself from lawsuits by discussing any potential development plans that might go against the property's zoning. The Forks Township Board of Supervisors voted Thursday night for its solicitor to draft an ordinance asking that before a hired consultant makes a recommendation to the airport authority, the authority come before the board for a consultation. The board will vote to adopt the ordinance at its meeting next month. Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said he's concerned that a developer might submit a plan …
