Major Palmer Township road reopens Thursday after being closed for construction work for two months.
Kingston Road has reopened. After two months of closure for construction, the popular road that connects those coming from Forks Township to Route 248 is back in business, without fanfare. The reopening even caught some Palmer Township officials off guard. "I did not know that," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said. The road closed in mid-July to allow construction crews to work on the side of the Northwood Center project where a strip mall, possibly including a bank, will be developed. There, an access road was constructed and paved. Meanwhile, on Route 248, another entrance to the complex was created. A CVS is nearly complete on the Northwood Avenue side of the project and there are also plans for a Sheetz convenience store, which would…

Palmer Township supervisors expected to decide Sept. 25 on whether to go to automated garbage collection system.
Palmer Township may have a decision on how its trash should be collected at its next meeting. Officials are weighing whether to go to an automated garbage collection system, one that would use a mechanic arm to dump trash, thus cutting down on manpower needed for hauling. At a recent meeting, township recycling coordinator Cindy Oatis briefed the Board of Supervisors and residents about the benefits of such a system. With the move, two of the three people who man a garbage truck would be out of a job. But officials believe the change is worth it, since trash collection would be safer and more efficient. The board is expected to make a decision at its Sept. 25 meeting. Three bidders are competing for the multi-million-dollar collection …

Palmer Township supervisors praise teamwork it took to build Miracle League field, which makes debut Sunday.
"If you build it, they will come." It was the catch phrase in the movie "Field of Dreams" and it will ring a similar bell Sunday when the Miracle League of Northampton County unveils its new field in Palmer Township. The Palmer Township Board of Supervisors praised the teamwork it took to build the field -- and the marvel that it is -- at Tuesday night's meeting. Two supervisors -- Dave Colver and Bob Lammi -- both were instrumental in the project coming to life. Lammi, who serves on the Miracle League's board of directors, brought the concept to the supervisors while Colver's construction company did the bulk of the work at the site. A ceremony is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Charles Chrin Community Center complex. Colver said he…

New garbage collection system will mean less trash costs for Palmer Township residents annually.
One aspect of Palmer Township's decision to change its waste hauling collection from one contractor to three is something that will make residents happy. Your trash costs are going down. At a recent Board of Supervisors meeting, Chairman Dave Colver emphasized just that. "Rates are coming down. For the next five to eight years, there will be a reduction," Colver said. "There it is in black and white Palmer residents." Residents now pay $309 a year for garbage collection. But with the township possibly entering into a waste hauling contract that could last eight years, that cost reduction could be locked in for some time. "It could be between 5 percent to 10 percent lower," Colver said. "We're not sure yet, but it's going to be substantial…
The Palmer Township Board of Supervisors approved two non-budgeted items Tuesday to help its parks department.
Tuesday night was like Christmas for Palmer Township Public Safety Director Tom Adams. Two items he presented in his report to the Palmer Township Board of Supervisors -- both not included in the township budget -- got approval at Tuesday night's meeting. Merry Christmas, Tom. Adams is getting a fence to be put around the township's multi-purpose field and a new lawn mower for the parks department. The board, acting as Santa Claus, first granted Adams approval for buying a fence, at a little less than $10,000, for the multi-purpose field at the Palmer Athletic Complex. "It's important to get a fence around it," Adams said. "It will keep fans away." Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver agreed. "We have too much of an investment not to," he said…

Palmer Township is getting a new salt shed. The Board of Supervisors recently approved a motion authorizing bids for the construction of the salt shed. The proposed salt shed is 50' x 72' with a 25' x 72' lean-to attached to it for the purpose of storing salt and other bulk materials, as well as additional equipment, according to minutes from the supervisors' Aug. 13 meeting. The shed's total capacity is 1,500 tons. All design and construction activities are covered by Liquid Fuels Funds, with the exception of providing electrical service. Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said liquid fuels funds will be used to pay for for the salt shed…

Proceeds from annual BIP fundraiser going to support pavilion at Miracle League Field at Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township.
Palmer Township will hold a golf outing Sept. 10 to benefit the Miracle League of Northampton County. One day after the Miracle League Field is scheduled to debut, the golf outing by the Palmer Township Business, Industrial and Professional Association at the Riverview Country Club in Forks Township will help raise funds for the venture. While monies last year supported the league, this year's proceeds will be given to help build an outdoor pavilion near the Miracle League ball field next to the Charles Chrin Community Center. The event will start with a lunch followed by a round of golf. The day will finish with a dinner, raffle and prizes, all donated by local businesses. Suburban EMS buys property for $1 for Palmer Township expansion.
The Palmer Township Board of Supervisors has approved the sale of municipal property to Suburban EMS for $1. The property, a little more than an acre, features a building behind Surburban EMS that had been in disrepair. "The township doesn't have use for it," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said. "Let them expand next door. I think this is a win-win for everybody. It really helps Suburban." Township Solicitor Charles Bruno said the property is being sold as is. In other business, the supervisors:
