Forks Township Crime Incidents Spike, Police Chief Says

November figures in Forks Township near double of October, but police chief says he's not alarmed.

Forks Township Police Chief Greg Dorney reported 1,141 criminal incidents in November, a huge jump from 676 criminal incidents for October. But Dorney really couldn't put a finger on the reason for the rise in crime, saying that it just works out that way some months. Forks police recorded the following criminal incident counts: An armed robbery and two forced entry burglaries topped November's police report. CRIMINAL ACTIVITY TRAFFIC    CALLS/SERVICES   OTHER INCIDENTS The police department assisted other police departments and agencies eight times and fire departments once during the month. State Rep. Joe Brennan Won't Seek Re-Election

Three-term Democratic legislator announces today that he will petition Commonwealth Court to have his name removed from November ballot; will remain in office through Nov. 30.

  State Rep. Joseph Brennan announced today that he has submitted a request to have his name removed from the November general election ballot. The Democratic legislator had been seeking his fourth term as representative from the 133rd District. Brennan was arrested last Wednesday and charged with simple assault and drunken driving after he allegedly choked and punched his wife, Norma Jane, on the porch of their Fountain Hill home and then drove away drunk. Brennan, 48, of 1201 Delaware Ave., is free on $7,500 bail and awaiting a preliminary hearing. Additionally, a court hearing on a Protection From Abuse order request on the legislator is scheduled for Thursday in Lehigh County Court. Norma Jane Brennan, who had filed for divorce in June…

How many yrs ago was that? And did he pay his fine, ect. How about some forgiveness. If he has gotten his life together then he might be a better rep for the experience. Or do you suggest that no recovering Alcoholics should be allowed to run for office? This guy, on the other hand, is obviously in the middle of a personal and marital crisis and should step down in order to deal with it.   more ›

Palmer Domestic Violence Dispute Started Over a Bath

Palmer Township police handle call in which father failed to give 4-year-old son a bath. Police say he wound up allegedly choking the mother.

A Palmer Township domestic violence call started when a man did not give his 4-year-old son a bath. It ended after the man had choked the boy’s mother to the point she had trouble breathing and the woman’s juvenile daughter had witnessed most of the incident, court records say. Police entered a home Tuesday night on the 400 block of S. Nulton Avenue and had to break up the physical altercation between the woman and the suspect, Timothy Abiodun Adeleye, 49. The couple were in the basement. According to a criminal complaint filed by township Officer John Charles Billiard: The records say Adeleye had a 1995 disorderly conduct arrest in New York and a 1999 credit card fraud arrest. Man Charged With Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend

Police charge a Palmer Township man with aggravated assault after a fight with his pregnant girlfriend and his father.

A Palmer Township man faces a possible 57 years in prison if convicted of domestic violence charges regarding an alleged assault of his pregnant girlfriend and father during an argument in late April. Walter Trommer Morrison Jr., 23, of 344 N. Nulton Ave., was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and harassment in a dispute at his father's home on April 23. He was arraigned by District Judge Jacqueline Taschner on Monday. According to Palmer Township Police Officer Todd Lohman, Morrison's father, Walter Sr., told police that he had been assaulted by his son after intervening in an argument his son was having with his girlfriend. Palmer Man Assaulted with Vacuum Cleaner Pole

A Palmer woman is charged with assaulting her husband with part of a vacuum cleaner after argument over his facial hair.

A Palmer Township woman has been arraigned on domestic violence charges after allegedly beating her husband with a vacuum pole following an argument over his facial hair. Joyce M. Speciale-Detweiler of 1125 Pike St. in Palmer Township, was charged with simple assault and harassment, according to paperwork provided by District Judge Jacqueline Taschner. At 4:13 p.m. Sunday, May 6, Palmer police received a 911 hangup for a domestic male vs. female incident. According to an affidavit filed by Officer Stephen Edward Schleig, three officers went to the scene and observed a male, Donald Detweiler, who was outside the residence with visible injuries to his upper torso and neck. Three homicides since March have left three women and an unborn child dead, plus three boyfriends charged with the killings

Three homicides in just four months have turned 2011 into a very deadly year for Lehigh Valley women - and a local agency wants other potential victims to find safety before it’s too late. “It’s just headline after headline of intimate partner violence, deadly abuse. It’s very serious. It doesn’t get more serious than this,” said John Toner, director of development of Turning Point, which assists thousands of domestic violence victims in Lehigh and Northampton counties every year. Turning Point fields 4,000 calls to its 24/7 hotline (610-437-3369) and shelters about 650 people a year.
