With meeting falling on Fourth of July, Forks Township changed its supervisors worksession to July 2.
"Give me Liberty"...or give us a Forks Township supervisors worksession. With the Fourth of July falling on when the township has its monthly Board of Supervisors worksession scheduled, Township Manager John Cornell wondered what the supervisors might want to do. "Should we hold it or another date or cancel it?" Cornell asked. Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss wasn't keen on cancelling the meeting at first. "We will hopefully finish the financial forecast plan," he said. "But we may need that meeting because we'd have just June then and might not be able to adopt it." Supervisor Bob Egolf and former Supervisor Bonnie Nicholas win the Democratic bid for two seats in Tuesday's primary election.
Forks Township Supervisor Bob Egolf and former Supervisor Bonnie Nicholas won the Democratic nominations for two seats in Tuesday's primary election. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Egolf received 311 votes while Nicholas received 265 votes. They beat out challenger Blandine Mballa-Fonkeu, who received 224 votes. The winners face Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss, a Republican who was unopposed in Tuesday's primary, in November's general election. Nicholas was a regular attendee at supervisors meetings during her election bid while Fonkeu showed up on occasion. A supervisor, former supervisor and newcomer are squaring off for two seats on the Forks Township Board of Supervisors in Tuesday's primary election.
Forks Township Supervisor Bob Egolf is running for re-election in Tuesday's primary election, hoping to get the Democratic nomination for one of two seats. Former Supervisor Bonnie Nicholas—a regular at supervisors meetings who is very vocal on a lot of township issues—is also running along with newcomer Blandine Mballa-Fonkeu. The winners will run against Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss, a Republican seeking re-election in November. The Forks Township Board of Supervisors restructured their meeting schedule last year to have a work session and a regular meeting instead of two monthly meetings.
Should they or shouldn't they? At their reorganization meeting to start the year, Forks Township officials debated whether they should be allowed to vote at their worksessions. Township Manager John Cornell had restructured the meeting schedule with supervisors' approval for the board to hold a worksession meeting and a regular meeting instead of two monthly supervisors meetings. But that took away an option in which township officials could vote on any important issues that might need immediate attention. Forks Township officials have canceled a special meeting Thursday before the regular monthly meeting of the Forks Township Board of Supervisors to discuss a future financial plan.
We'll have to wait for Round Two. Forks Township officials announced that the second meeting to discuss Forks Township's financial future that was supposed to be held before the Board of Supervisors regular monthly meeting Thursday has been canceled. Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss passed on a notice from administrative assistant Debi Tindall Thursday morning. No reason was given for the cancellation. The regular meeting will still be held at 7 p.m. in township chambers. Forks supervisors gave their thoughts recently regarding the first meeting. Forks Township Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss has tossed his hat into the ring. Chuss, who is wrapping up his six-year term as a supervisor, has announced that he is seeking a second term. Chuss said he recently turned in his paperwork for his re-election bid to the Northampton County Board of Elections. "I am running for re-election because the challenges facing the township are significant," he said. "I believe we are moving in the right direction and feel with my background and experience both professionally and with the township I feel I can continue to help serve the residents in a fiscally responsible manner." The Forks Township Board of Supervisors has added a special meeting to its calendar for March.
The Forks Township Board of Supervisors usually holds two meetings each month, a work session on the first Thursday and regular meeting on the third Thursday. Well, now there's another meeting on the schedule. Township officials have announced that the supervisors will gather Thursday, March 14, for a special meeting to discuss a long-range plan for the township's financial future. After deciding at the end of last year to skip a tax hike for 2013, the board decided it should examine its financial outlook and come up with a plan to deter any major tax hikes down the road.
