Tensions spark as Forks Township Board of Supervisors debates over funding annual fireworks show.
It costs $6,000 and is considered the biggest draw in Forks Township every year. But the Forks Township Community Days fireworks display landed on the township's fiscal chopping block — due to the township's looming financial crisis — at a recent meeting and almost went up in flames. "I have a real problem when I see $6,000 for fireworks," Supervisor Bob Egolf said. "I think great, in 15 minutes to a half-hour, $6,000 goes up in smoke." "We have an $8 million budget. Forks Township Board of Supervisors to discuss financial future at meeting Thursday night.
The future may be arriving Thursday night. Forks Township's Board of Supervisors will hold their monthly meeting Thursday night with discussion and scheduling of a long-range financial plan topping the agenda. The meeting is also expected to include a presentation by members of the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township about its 2013 goals and objectives. BCAF will also discuss its pitch for a beer tent and a new fireworks provider for the annual Community Days in mid-September. Also on the agenda are an employee assistance program, an open space grant application and the Bushkill Stream Conservancy besides department head reports. It's time to start talking about Forks Community Day. The annual Forks Township event will be among the topics on the agenda for the Forks Township Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday night. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. in the supervisors chambers in the township municipal building. Among the top agenda items are presentations for Alison Miers, vice president of Easton Initiatives for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Miers will be discussing the 2013 goals and objectives of the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township. Brian Lokitis has served as president of Forks business association and runs Forks Community Days.
He's served as president of the Business and Commerce Association of Forks Township. And he's coordinated the annual Forks Community Days for the past few years. Due to those efforts and many others, Forks Township resident Brian Lokitis will be the recipient of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce's Volunteer of the Year Award. Forks officials commend everyone involved in Forks Township Community Days, state event was huge success.
Forks Township knows how to put on a party. Forks officials commended everyone involved with last weekend's annual Forks Community Days, stating that the two-day event was a huge success and attendance was the highest ever. "It was an outstanding event," Supervisor Dan Martyak said. He also praised the public works and recreation departments for their efforts. "It was great and well-run. Everyone did a fantastic job," Supervisor David Billings said. Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said that attendance was up significantly and that Sunday's turnout seemed to be more than double of what it usually is. Some of the scenes and people from Forks Community Days this past weekend.
Forks Township's annual Community Days wrapped up this weekend with another successful event in which some township officials said they hadn't seen so much foot traffic in three or four years. The event took place Saturday and Sunday with a fabulous fireworks display Saturday night. Community Days was different this year too since organizers built it around the township's new amphitheater. Organizers moved vendors near the amphitheater this year for Forks Community Days.
Brian Lokitis looked like he was in a circus Saturday. "Because of the changes, I'm doing a lot of last-minute juggling," he said. The organizer of Forks Township Community Days had his hands full Saturday morning as he tried to get vendors set up in a new layout on the field around the new amphitheater. Most of the vendors had moved to the field from last year's location around the tennis and basketball courts, although a handful still remained. Several township officials said they were very pleased with the new look. "It's really good," Supervisors Chairman Erik Chuss said. "I'm very excited about it."
