Palmer Township changed its trash collection system, but one resident complained that the township looks like a 'dump.'
Trash talk and trash changes were te talk of Palmer Township. The township switched to a new trash hauling system Wednesday. Meanwhile, a resident said at a recent meeting that the township looks like a "dump." The Easton Area School District is also considered a mess right now. And while it may be trying to plug holes by hiring a new superintendent, Forks Township is finding holes—with water leaks in its new public works building—and is still dealing with "shoddy" work on its amphitheater. Here is the Week in Review: Palmer Township resident Karen Miller appeared before the Board of Supervisors to complain about numerous eyesores. Forks Township officials want repairs to amphitheater done before summer begins. After three month-closure, …

The new Beyond Cakes in Forks Township held a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday.
They came to meet and greet—and eat. Community business leaders, Forks Township officials and state Rep. Joe Emrick turned out Tuesday afternoon to welcome Beyond Cakes to the neighborhood. Owner Diane Hamilton took over the site from Antonella's Bakery about a month ago and the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce decided to honor the new business with a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting. But Hamilton provided the sweet reception. She offered up some of her tasty treats, including the numerous speciality cupcakes that make the business Beyond Cakes. Emrick presented Hamilton with a proclamation. He was joined by Forks Township supervisors Erik Chuss and David Billings and former supervisor C. David Howell. Beyond Cakes is …

Ground broken behind fire station in Forks Township Friday on new skate park. The park could be ready to open by the end of June, officials said.
They're starting to roll with it. The Forks Township Public Works Department was out Friday morning digging the foundation for the township's new skate park. "We're ready to move forward," Recreation Director Rachel Sulzbach said recently. Sulzbach recently told the Board of Supervisors that the Skate Park Committee approved the design of the skate park and the supervisors, skaters and Police Chief Greg Dorney signed off on it as well. One change was putting the park together in one phase instead of two. "We're doing everything at once, which is going to save money," she said. The skate park is included in the township's five-year parks and recreation plan. It was estimated that the skate park, which would be between the fire station and …
Forks Township officials have been dealing with leakage issues at new public works building for more than six months. A resolution may finally be near.
For the past year, Public Works Director Mark Roberts has taken drives down Newlins Mill Road to watch a monstrous football stadium-like structure take shape. And while Forks Township's new public works facility is supposed to be state-of-the-art and have all the bells and whistles that a $5.5 million structure should, some wonder when it will ever open. That's because for the past six months or so, Roberts has been dealing with water-proofing leakage issues. "Water-proofing is still not resolved," Roberts informed the board of supervisors at a recent meeting. There was talk that the facility could open in October or November, but those months have long passed. Some municipalities are asking for a tour and to hold a meeting there in mid-…

Forks Township officials want repairs to amphitheater done before summer begins.
Forks Township Supervisor Dan Martyak asks the same question practically every meeting. "What is the status with the amphitheater?" And Martyak usually receives the same answer: Absolutely nothing. Forks Township officials are demanding answers to why repair work that needs to be done on the township's amphitheater is falling on deaf ears. For nearly a year now, Forks officials have dealt with "shoddy" work done by the contractor of the amphitheater, which the township uses for its Sounds of Summer concert series and for Forks Community Days. Public Works Director Mark Roberts told Martyak at last month's Board of Supervisors meeting that solicitor Karl Kline has tried to reach out to get Fourmen Construction Co. of New York back to make …
