Psychedelic Mushrooms Allegedly Found in Hotel Room

Phillipsburg man charged with having psychedelic mushrooms in hotel on Palmer Township border.

A Phillipsburg man now apparently living in Easton is accused of having two bags of psychedelic mushrooms in a Lower Nazareth Township motel room in April. Melvin Lee Pettaway, 43, also is accused of giving police a false identity during the incident on April 12, around 7:30 p.m. After police allegedly found two bags of psilocybin mushrooms inside Pettaway’s room at the Hampton Inn on Route 248, he told them his name was Kyle Thomas, court records say. Pettaway’s file does not contain an affidavit of probable cause, which provides details of the arrest and evidence. The file does say that an arrest warrant was approved April 23. The file’s lead sheet lists Pettaway’s address as 314 B S. Main St., Phillipsburg. But another sheet in the file…

Counterfeit Checks Cashed at Walmart, Police Say

Easton woman charged with cashing two counterfeit checks at Walmart in Lower Nazareth Township.

An Easton woman is accused of cashing two counterfeit checks at the Walmart in Lower Nazareth Township in December, according to court papers. Theresa Mulhearn, 45, of 700 Walnut St., allegedly cashed the fake checks—each for $397—on Dec. 16, according to a complaint filed by Colonial Regional Police. The printing on the checks indicated that they came from Express Healthcare Services from Reading, but the account and routing numbers belonged to a different business—Interim Health Care of Blakely in Lackawanna County, according to the affidavit of probable cause. The owner of Interim Health Care told police that Mulhearn did not work for him nor was there any reason why she would have received a check from his company, the affidavit said. …

'I Thought This Was the End for Me,' Robbery Victim Says

Easton couple gets state prison sentence for holding up Lower Nazareth pharmacy.

An Easton couple could spend the next decade in state prison for robbing a local pharmacy to feed their drug habit, according to published reports. Gregory and Lindsey Dalrymple, both 30, received state prison terms Monday in Northampton County Court after a judge heard from a pharmacist at the Lower Nazareth Walmart who testified about being robbed by the couple last year. "He kept yelling I had three seconds to get the Fentanyl into the bag or I would get shot," pharmacist Scott Gordon testified, later adding: "I thought this was the end for me." That's according to the Morning Call, which notes that a second Walmart employee testified that she still has flashbacks about the robbery on Aug. 6. The Express-Times reports that Gregory got a…

Easton teenager arrested and arraigned for September retail theft at Target, court documents indicate.

Police have made an arrest in a September retail theft case in which a female teenager and another woman tried to walk out of the Target in Lower Nazareth Township with about $420 in merchandise stuffed into an orange tote container. Court records say store employees stopped the women, including suspect Khadijha Demaris Noone, 18, of Easton, as they left the store the afternoon of Sept. 28, a Friday. But the women fled on foot without taking the merchandise and got away in a black 1998 Volkswagen Jetta. The Target is at 3835 Dryland Way near the intersection of Routes 33 and 248. I guess I missed the section of Patch where it said this was a journalistic endeavor, as opposed to a community message board. What kind of a person picks a story about two people being killed, to complain about the way the article was written?   more ›

After getting into an argument, police say, Nicholas Joseph Yonak, 32, of Lower Nazareth Township, allegedly tied up his girlfriend with rope, placed handcuffs on her and forced a sock into her mouth.

A Lower Nazareth Township man, with the help of a male friend, tied up his girlfriend with rope and placed handcuffs on her early Monday, then forced her to take a prescription sedative, court records say. Local Sikhs Upset by Wisconsin Temple Shooting

The Lehigh Valley Sikh community of about 400 families is disturbed by Sunday's mass shooting at a temple in a Milwaukee suburb.

The Sikh Society of Lehigh Valley - found among farm fields and a few houses in Northampton County - is a religious center you might never notice. For the 400 families the temple serves, however, the seclusion has become a cause for alarm. Seven people were killed and many others wounded in a Sunday morning mass shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, a suburb of Milwaukee. Police said three bodies were found outside the temple and four were inside the building. The gunman is among the dead in what police are calling a "well-coordinated attack." "We need protection here, too," said Jaswinder Singh, a committee member at the local Sikh temple in Lower Nazareth Township. "We’re not feeling safe." While children -- some too …

Kitten's Ride in Engine Compartment Ends After Parking Lot Rescue

After stopping for lunch at the Panera Bread in Lower Nazareth Township, a mother and daughter from Palmer Township are forced to take action when they notice their car starts to... meow.

How do those “Born to be Wild” lyrics go?  Get your motor running, head out on the highway, Looking for adventure in whatever comes our way.  Ah, yes. I’m sure those were the exact lyrics playing through the mind of the 2.2 pound kitten who decided to hitch a ride -- for just under 10 miles -- inside the engine compartment of a Palmer Township woman’s car.  If you think the kitten was surprised by her suddenly traveling napping spot, imagine what went through the minds of 17-year-old Katie Miller and her mother, Karen, when they stopped for lunch Tuesday afternoon at the Panera Bread in Lower Nazareth Township and realized their car was… meowing. According to Karen Miller, she and her daughter had arrived at the Panera Bread in the …
