The third phase of work to replace the 30-plus-year-old roof at Easton Area High School will begin this summer. Easton Area Schools Business Administrator Michael Simonetta announced that phase three of the project for asbestos abatement on the roof has been awarded to Sergeant Enterprises, which came in with a low bid of $10,224. The roof work started in 2011 with the first phase replacing 50,000 square feet. The entire 110,000-square-foot roof replacement project is expected to cost $1.4 million. Four students from Easton's Paxinosa Elementary opened the vice president's speech this week.
For most kids, saying the Pledge of Allegiance is just a regular part of any school day. However, not every student says the pledge before an audience of hundreds and hundreds of people, one of them the Vice President of the United States. Her classmate, Kaivon Fitzpatrick -- also of Easton -- had his own trick: "You just focus on your parents," he said -- he could see them from the stage -- and that made it easier…

It will cost the Easton Area School District about $950,000 more than expected to renovate Paxinosa Elementary School. According to the Express-Times, the district had planned to spend $8.3 million over the next two years to make masonry repairs on the West Ward school and upgrade its heating, cooling and ventilation systems. But district engineers say HVAC costs have increased in the past few months, bringing the project's cost up to $9.26 million. Earlier this year, the district released a study ranking its school buildings, placing Paxinosa in the "fair category."
