From square dancing and tractor pulls to potato judging and cooking demonstrations, the eight-day Pennsylvania Farm Show offers something for everyone.
The 2013 Pennsylvania Farm Show opens today, Jan. 5, in Harrisburg, offering a host of activities, including tractor pulls and a tractor square dance, cattle and sheep shows and cooking contests and competitions. Held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg, the show will run daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 12. Here's 5 Fun Things to Do: 1. Cow Patty Bingo. Cows will roam a giant bingo card, starting at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, and if one does its business first on your square, you win. A Bethlehem woman won the distinction of having the best Angel Food Cake at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Catharine Ache, who lives in West Bethlehem, and her Angel Food Cake with Raspberries bested 65 other bakers in the farm show’s “Incredible Angel Food Cake Contest” on Sunday. The cakes were judged based on a list of criteria, including surface texture and color, inner texture and lightness, smell, taste, flavoring, creativity, and topping or icing. The contest was sponsored by Pennsylvania’s Egg Farmers. The winning recipe is as follows: Angel Food Cake with Raspberries Cake Batter Heat oven to 375°F. The now two-time champ -- Just Enuff New Edition Edgar -- was given the honors of 2012 Supreme Champion Bull on Jan. 9 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
Just Enuff New Edition Edgar, a junior yearling Angus bull from Upper Nazareth Township, has been crowned -- for the second year in a row -- the Supreme Champion Bull at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. The Upper Nazareth-based bull, who was exhibited by Jamie Brozman, received the 2012 honors on Jan. 9, according to a press release on www.farmshow.state.pa.us. “You have no idea how exciting it is to win both years,” Brozman said. “There is so much more pressure the second year.
