Road closure expected Friday for construction of Northwood Center. Detour could be up to 45 days, Palmer Township officials say.
Get ready for a major road closure. Palmer Township Public Safety Director Tom Adams said earlier this week that Kingston Road is expected to be closed starting Friday. The closure, which could last up to 45 days, will allow construction crews to work on the side of the Northwood Center project where a strip mall, possibly including a bank, will be developed. A CVS is nearly complete on the Northwood Avenue side of the project and there are also plans for a Sheetz convenience store, which would be the biggest in the Lehigh Valley. The detour is supposed to flow traffic around the Northwood Center traffic, with motorists using Kingston to get to Route 248 from Forks Township to turn on Van Buren Road and connect with Route 248 from either …

The large Sheetz convenience store and gas station proposed in Palmer Township is delayed by details being worked out with PennDOT.
As another wall goes up on the framework of the new CVS in Palmer Township, little progress has been made on the other side of the parcel. On the Kingston Road end of the new Northwood Center, a gravel road was set up to allow access for construction trucks to build the largest Sheetz in the Lehigh Valley. But when that Sheetz will arrive no one is quite certain. "Sheetz hasn't been approved yet," said Dave Colver, chairman of the Palmer Township Board of Supervisors. "CVS should be long done before Sheetz gets going, I think." Strausser Enterprises, the developer of the Northwood Center, once again has asked the Board of Supervisors for a deadline extension. At a recent meeting, Solicitor Charles Bruno informed the supervisors that he …

As walls are put up at Northwood Avenue site, Sheetz still working out traffic issues for its store here.
The sign says: CVS Coming Soon. With building permits approved three weeks ago, the three-lot development on Route 248 at the corner of Northwood Avenue is suddenly taking shape. Construction crews are putting up the frame of what will be a 13,200-square-foot pharmacy. Director of Planning Cyndie Carman said township officials have not been given a timetable as to when the CVS will be completed. But, based on the construction so far, Carman said she doesn't expect the work to take too long. "I imagine they're trying to get it built as quickly as possible," Carman said. Bill Hissam, project manager for Strausser Enterprises in Palmer Township, was not available for comment. The CVS, which will sit on a 2-acre lot, is the first project for …

Developer Gary Strausser seeks an extension on a project to finalize an agreement to build largest Sheetz in Lehigh Valley.
Plans for the largest Sheetz in the Lehigh Valley have stalled. Gary Strausser, the developer building the project, sent the Palmer Township Board of Supervisors word that he "is not ready to enter into an agreement" with Sheetz for the convenience store and gas station along Route 248. Township Solicitor Charles Bruno said Strausser Enterprises is seeking an extension on the project until May 31 to work out the agreement. The supervisors approved that extension at their meeting Tuesday night. In December, the supervisors had approved the final development plans for the Sheetz. The three-lot development sits along Route 248 at the corner of Northwood Avenue, where the First Star Bank used to be. Work on the land has already begun with the…

Palmer Township Supervisors approve plans for the Lehigh Valley's largest Sheetz.
Palmer Township Supervisors approved the final development plans Tuesday for the Lehigh Valley’s largest Sheetz. The three-lot development sits along Route 248 at the corner of Northwood Avenue and Route 248, where the First Star Bank used to be. In addition to the convenience store and gas pumps, the development will include a CVS, said David Lear, project manager for Lehigh Engineering Associates Inc. in Walnutport. The third business hasn’t been determined yet. According to the drawings, Sheetz plans to have parking next to its building that lies beside a road that will connect Northwood Avenue to Kingston Road. Cyndie Carmen, planning director for Palmer, told the supervisors that the township’s ordinance doesn’t permit vehicles to …

Sheetz convenience store franchise gets approval from Palmer Township Planning Commission.
The Palmer Township Planning Commission approved the land development plan Tuesday night for a Sheetz convenience store along Route 248. The new convenience store will be one of three stores in an 18-acre development at the intersection of Northwood Road and Route 248 (Easton-Nazareth Highway), said Michael LaCesa, a director of real estate for Sheetz Inc. In order to get the plan through, however, a zoning ordinance had to be amended to allow convenience stores in that area. The land, which once was the home of a First Star Bank, is now zoned as a general commercial district. Work on the land has already begun with the excavation for a CVS Pharmacy. It will be the first of the three buildings to go in the development, said David Lear, …
