Start U.S. Death Star Construction by 2016, Petitioners Say

More than 20,000 petitioners want the United States to start building a "Death Star" space superiority platform and weapons system

Is this for real or just an intergalactic joke? Thousands of people are petitioning the Obama Administration to "secure resources and funding and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016." The petition states that a "space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense." The petitioners are closing in on their goal of 25,000 signatures by December 14. In movies, the Death Star of "Star Wars" fame is a fictional moon-sized space station and super weapon, according to Wikipedia, which says it is capable of destroying a planet with a single destructive energy beam. YIKES!

Are You Excited For New Star Wars Movies?

Disney owns George Lucas' films now, and plans a new Star Wars movie for 2015. What do you think?

Most of this week's news focused on Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath.  Somewhere in there was a pretty big entertainment story: Disney had bought Star Wars creator George Lucas' company Lucasfilm for $4 billion, and plans to make at least three new Star Wars movies. I still love the original Star Wars movies. The Empire Strikes Back is the first movie I remember seeing in theaters. I thought the prequels were a dull, noisy mess. But that's just me. What do you think? Are you excited? Hopeful Disney will make a quality trilogy? Already exhausted by the Star Wars movies we have? Take our poll, and sound off in the comments section.

I am definitely excited! I was 7 when the first movie came out. My Grandpa took me to see it at the Boyd Theater in Bethlehem. It was all I talked about that summer and has continued to entertain me ever since (even the dull, noisy prequels - I actually really liked The Revenge of the Sith, bad acting and all). Disney will do a great job with these movies and I can't wait!   more ›
