What's Open/Closed for Veterans Day

Most retailers are open to observe Veterans Day Monday. The same goes for the Easton Area School District.

It's the observed holiday to honor all of our military veterans who gave their service to protect our country and preserve our freedom. While Veterans Day was Sunday, most places will observe it Monday. Some places in Forks and Palmer townships will be open Monday for the Veterans Day holiday. But if you want to mail a letter, cash a check or take out the trash, you're going to have to wait a day until Tuesday.  What's closed:

On Veterans Day, Easton's Gibson Family Remembers Fallen Brother

Forty-three years after his death, family hasn't forgotten Easton Area High School's first casualty of Vietnam War.

Pat Gibson's house on Berwick Street in Easton is a home of many shrines. Pictures of her six grandchildren wallpaper her refrigerator. The walls show other family photos, even an old black and white one showing Gibson as a member of Easton's fledgling high school track team. And among all this, there's Terry. William Terry Gibson was the brother of Pat's husband. Terry died in 1968 at age 18 while serving with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. He was Easton Area High School's first student killed in Vietnam, Pat Gibson said. His death stunned the city. "This guy was a guy who had a smile of gold," she said. Very nice story Tom. These are the things neighbors need to hear more of about each other to help connect and find common threads of humanity with one another. "Thank you" to William Terry Gibson for his service and for paying the ultimate price for freedom.   more ›

Thank you Senators for looking after our veterans by passing a very important jobs benefits for them. If only others (Wall Street greed) would take a moment to pay respect to them and our soldiers, our country will be a lot better off. It was rather dissapointing to learn about the Air Force mishandling of the bodies of soldiers at the morgue.   more ›
