The outgoing Defense Secretary has cleared women for combat

Sweeping new rules at the Pentagon -- ordered by outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta after a year of consultations with senior military officers -- require the military services to expand all positions to women -- or convince the defense secretary why those jobs should remain exclusively male. The armed services have until May 15 to submit specific plans for lifting all remaining job restrictions for women, and until January 2016 for all exemptions to be sought and changes to be put in place, according to a Huffington Post report. Bottom line, if they can pass the test they should be allowed. The facts are though that there just won't be that many woman that can meet the requirements. The woman that have attempted thus far have failed. At what point will standards be lowered to offer more woman the opportunity?   more ›
