Crayola Experience in Easton will reopen in May with new activities and displays that the company hopes will attract 150,000 more visitors a year.
Ink that puffs up when you heat it. A 40-foot wall of crayon bins. An 85-foot water attraction. Those are all among the new features kids will be able to see and take part in when the Crayola Experience reopens in May. Easton's main tourist destination closed for renovations in mid-February, but on Tuesday, the company gave a tour of its soon-to-be-upgraded building to members of the media and local officials. "This really is going to be a reimagined facility," said Victoria Lozano, Crayola's VP of corporate strategy and development, who led the tour. Good morning everyone. Let's take a look at the last weekend of 2011. 1. Crayola will hold its second annual "Crayon Drop" at 8 p.m. Saturday in Centre Square. That follows a daylong New Year's Eve party in the factory, with events for kids from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visit the Crayola website for more information. 2. As part of the Crayola events, Easton's School of Rock will peform a show from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 2. The final "Dancing on the Thirds" of the year, 7 p.m. tonight at the Third Street Alliance. 3. Much of the electricity Crayola uses to make millions of crayons is now being produced on site. The Church Lane headquarters has established acres of solar panels behind its complex of buildings in Forks Township and the electricity is already flowing. "Phases one and two produce about 15 percent of our electricity," said project manager Anjan Bhavsar. "When phase three is complete, it will rise to about 20 percent." Power is fed directly into the township's manufacturing facilities, reducing the amount of electricity the company needs from the grid.
