many years ago back in the 1972 Easton area High school had race problems. the Black students and the community tried their best to address these very issues. The black community was denied just about everything that they inquired about including black history black teachers the black students that wanted change were suspended. Some activist were arrested and beat up by Easton Police trumped up charges were by Palmer Police. Easton Express was there . Easton and the Lehigh Valley and Phillipsburg,N.J lead the nation as far as racism in the communities. The town of Easton will denied it Phillipsburg will deny racism exist but visit the courtrooms visit the unemployment offices visit the welfare offices and see what i see. There is something very wicked going on. God will one Day answer our Prayers like he did Moses. I look for that great day when Babylon falls. Places like Phillipsburg and Easton will be no more. Print this and your position at Patch will be short

Thanks Jay J for the comment. Your concerns have been noted. But the only way to really look into this issue is by speaking on the record about your concerns. If you're willing to do so, please call me or email me at my contact information.

I agree with this post. With a son on that team I feel as though the minority representation is lacking. There needs to be a story about it.

Takesha, I see your a NJ transplant as are many folks who currently live in Easton, Palmer or P'burg. I read that your focus is Easton Schools and School Board. Easton Football is a great program but has one area that has not been addressed and need public support to fix. Here is a short commentary I wrote this year but have not shared with many.
He does not coach diversity. He continues to have a “good ole boy” staff that looks like him, says yes to him, and fears him. Why doesn’t he have at least one or two minority varsity coaches, who understands and relate with the all players. The federal government currently has a work force of diversity which equals over 30%. Why hasn’t Coach Shiffert developed and mentored qualified minority coaches from our community which is 25% minority? America has flourished since the civil rights movement while Easton Football is suffering from the lack of it. Lovie Smith (Chicago Bears), Mike Tomlin (Pittsburg Steelers) are NFL head coaches who reflect diversity in society. The NCAA has Turner Gill (Kansas), Charlie Strong (Louisville) and Mike London (Virginia). Penn State has Larry Johnson and Kermit Buggs as successful assistant coaches while Coach Shiffert has none. All these coaches share one common belief; they make competition the corner stone of success.
